BATTLE OF THE BORDER

GAMES:

SUMMARY:
I am wearing a red shirt in this match. My most recent match was in August 2025 at Battle of the Border, a tournament I’ve been fortunate to be invited to for a few years. As a Canadian, I grew up playing team sports like ice hockey and soccer, so competition for me isn’t just always about individual performance but having the opportunity to contribute to a team effort.

As part of the Canadian squash team for this tournament, I competed alongside my teammates allowing us to support one another as well as learn from our collective experiences. It was invaluable having coaches who carefully guided me through my matches. I was able to absorb the coaches’ lessons and advice, adapt my game, and strengthen the skills that only come from being part of a team.

I have gained an appreciation for a team environment, which I believe will help me reach my potential as a competitive squash player. This is why I want to play Division I squash. The opportunity to grow in a high-performance environment, contribute to a team culture, be part of an extended squash family, and learn from experienced coaches is what excites me most about competing at the next level.

MAY 2025: BU17 – Toronto

CANADIAN JUNIOR CLOSED SEMI FINALS

GAMES:

SUMMARY:
Playing in my down year, against an opponent a year older than me, this match was at the Canadian Junior Closed tournament in May 2025. During the game break after the first game, while speaking to my coach, I choked on my packet of energy gel. The gel was stuck in the back of my throat and I had difficulty breathing. Despite vomiting twice and having the Heimlich maneuver performed on me, my breathing was not back to normal.

The referee suggested I stop playing but I was down the first game and determined to continue playing. Also, this opponent beat me 2 years ago so I wanted to take this opportunity to win this match. I persevered and pushed to win the next 3 games to win the match in 4 games.

This is an example, when in the face of a setback, I am able to push through and focus on the task that needs to be completed.

MAY 2025: BU17 – Niagara-on-the-Lake

ONTARIO JUNIOR OPEN

GAMES:

SUMMARY:
I am wearing a blue shirt in this match. Playing in my down year, this match was at the Squash Ontario Junior Open tournament in May 2025. I lost the first two games against an opponent who is a year older than me. I remained focused on each point and each rally. I won the next three games to win the match and win the Ontario Open in my down year.
By focusing on the present, staying positive, and being resilient I was able to beat my opponent. Besides on court and off court strength and cardio training, I have been focusing more on using pre game visualization, mental preparation and techniques to help me get “in the zone”.

Paying closer attention to the type and timing of my nutrition has also helped me to win on the court.

FEBRUARY 2025: BU17/19 – Toronto

SQUASH ONTARIO JUNIOR GOLD

GAMES:

SUMMARY:
As a U13 and U15 player, I admired the playing style of some of my older local squash players. In this Ontario Gold tournament the U17 and U19 divisions were combined.

Playing for first place, my opponent in this match is a mentor and friend who will be playing Division 1 squash at an Ivy League school this fall. As a high school sophomore, I was able to win two games off him in this match.

Since starting squash at the age of 8, many of my on court competitors have become true friends off the court.

One of the best experiences of playing competitive squash is the friendships I have made. One of the great things about travelling to national and international tournaments is the opportunity for me to connect in person with my squash friends on and off the court.

APRIL 2024: BU15 – Calgary

CANADIAN JUNIOR CLOSED

GAMES:

SUMMARY:
This match was 18 months ago and highlights my final match when I won the Canadian Junior Closed.
